Potrero Hill, San Francisco

A neighborhood guide for Potrero Hill, San Francisco

Due to the increase in criminal behavior in the Bayview One car sector, (Potrero Hill) we have increased patrol and plain clothes units. Our efforts paid off in the arrest of a person with warrants for burglary, possession of stolen property and other theft offenses.

Sgt Dempsey, detailed to this area, had the suspect under surveillance. Unfortunately for both of us, we think the suspect had already broken into a car or residence and stole some items. He was carrying a heavy bag when Sgt. Dempsey spotted him.

The Sgt. saw the suspect sell the items to a bar patron at 17th and Wisconsin. The Sgt. quickly interviewed the patron who told the officer he bought the items. The patron left the items and the Sgt. went to arrest the suspect. When Sgt. Dempsey returned the patron was gone. Sgt. Dempsey recovered the items.

We need your help in locating the victim of the theft. I did not see a report listing similar items taken. Sometimes a victim will take a few days to make a report, and sometimes they will never make a report.

We need your help in locating this person so that we can have the items identified. Without a victim, the police department can not charge the individual with any new crimes. Yes, he is in jail for the warrants, but he may get out.

We would also like to have the person who bought the items available to be a witness against the suspect.

If you can help us that would help our Bayview Community. I once heard a statistic that a person such as the one Sgt. Dempsey arrested commits about 125 crimes before he is arrested. I forget how many he commits before he is incarcerated. Please help us put this guy in jail for a good long time.

Lt. Kurt Bruneman
