Burglary, Stalking
16 Dec 2005Numerous Bayview Officers responded to a burglary in progress on 22nd Street in the Potrero Hill District. The 911 caller, a neighbor heard strange noises from the unit that was being burglarized. Knowing that the occupant was not home he investigated. He saw that the door was kicked in and that there was still was a commotion inside. He called the police. Officers Goldsborough and Canedo were the first to arrive and were able to take the suspect into custody. The reportee saw the suspect being lead outside and noticed that it was the occupant’s ex-boyfriend. The unit had numerous items that were damaged. Further the suspect opened the gas burner on the stove and the smell of gas was strong. When later asked why he turned on the gas, he replied, “I wanted to see the light.”
The occupant returned home a short time later and told the Officers that the man in custody was her estranged boyfriend. The relationship ended approximately three weeks ago. Since then the suspect has called repeatedly, up to one hundred times a day and has made numerous unannounced visits. The suspect was booked for numerous charges including burglary and stalking.
